Ex North Star F.C. junior development player, Jonothan Camilleri has signed with Stoke F.C. Academy. in England.
Jono as we know him, met up with our DOC Gordon Tulloch in 2008 and started training privately with Gordon's BYSC development program. In 2008 Jono was playing for Northern New south Wales U14 in the Representative program.
In 2009 Jono joined North Star and played for our U15 Division 1 team and the following year (2010) played in our U16BJL team.
It was his decision with the assistance of his parents to commit to North Star F.C, travelling to Brisbane 4 times a week from the Gold Coast, 3 for training and 1 trip to every Game each week.
At the time, Jono and his parents believed Brisbane Youth Soccer Clinics and North Star were providing a great program to develop young players. This decision proved to be the right one.
Gordon recalls "When Jono started at North Star he was small and a late developer with a lot of work ahead of him. He was no better than the players around him, however he did show commitment, persistence and desire to improve and to achieve his goals. This was highlighted with his commitment to travel, his determination and attitude towards training and game play.
He toured England with "BYSC" England Tours in 2008 and 2009 training with Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton. Jono also travelled on his own to England in 2010 training with Sheffield Wednesday and Chesterfield. All the time gaining valuable knowledge and experience on what it takes to play at the highest level.
He now joins a number of North Star’s recent successes such as Michael Zullo and Adam Sarota who now play in the Dutch League and are consistent players in the current Australian team.
With over 23 players recently playing in the Brisbane Premier League and Qld State League, our development program is getting noticed.
